Bringing Fiction to Life

Weekly fiction writing class (Tuesdays)

Santa Rosa Junior College

1501 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95401

6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Writers of fiction will write more confidently and creatively and their final drafts will be stronger if they can understand as much as possible about the various elements that are universal to all stories. This class uses brief lectures, lively discussions, published examples, and in-class writing exercises to explore how character, plot, conflict, setting, and point of view affect every story we write. We will experiment with how to take advantage of the opportunities each of these elements offer, as well learn how to meet the challenges and avoid the pitfalls those elements can pose. The warm, informative, and risk-free atmosphere of this class will support and inspire writers with little or no writing experience, while at the same time challenging and guiding those who are further along in their writing lives. Either way, students can expect to finish this class with some great ideas for new stories and/or a deepened understanding of the stories they are currently working on. Tuesdays. In honor of Veterans Day, there will be no meeting on November 11th.
