Weekly fiction writing class (Fridays)
Santa Rosa Junior College
1501 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95401
9:30 am - 11:30 amWhether we're writing primarily from imagination or mainly from memory, certain principles apply to shaping a compelling story. Both interested beginners and more seasoned writers will benefit from (and enjoy!) this hands-on exploration of fiction as they gain insight into the strategies that successful writers use to discover, shape, and polish their stories. In-class writing exercises will enable participants to learn about elements of fiction such as character, plot, setting, and point of view at the same time that they expand their writing skills. Often these exercises will result in little gems of writing and/or potential seeds for larger stories. Sharing the results of some of these exercises with other members of the class will give writers a sense of what is already working "on the page" as well as what they might do to make their writing even stronger.
